BP Plc has appointed Ian Tyler as Chair with immediate effect, following a search process that considered both internal and external candidates.

Tyler joined the oil major's board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was named Interim Chair on 26 May, a period during which he worked directly alongside chief executive Meg O'Neill. He brings a non-executive career spanning oil and gas, natural resources and engineering, having worked with more than 15 chief executives, and currently chairs Grafton Group while serving as senior independent director at Anglo American plc.

Dame Amanda Blanc, BP's senior independent director, said the board unanimously backed the appointment, noting Tyler had "secured the confidence of the board and executive management through his considered leadership, judgement and integrity."

Tyler said he would focus on evolving the board's depth and capabilities to support BP's strategic priorities, alongside establishing "regular and transparent engagement with our shareholders."

BP also disclosed that Blanc will not stand for re-election at the 2027 annual general meeting and will step down once a successor as senior independent director is appointed. Blanc, who has served four years on the board and just completed managing the chair search, said she leaves "knowing that bp has a strong foundation with Meg and Ian now in place."

Tyler noted he had asked Blanc to stay but respected her decision to plan her departure now that the search process was complete.
