The day's small-cap news was dominated by balance-sheet resets and resource upgrades rather than speculative moves. Nostrum Oil & Gas drew a line under almost three decades in Kazakhstan with a $304.6m disposal that clears its defaulted notes, while a clutch of junior explorers, Richmond Hill, Panther Metals, Shuka Minerals and African Pioneer among them, pushed ahead with drilling and fundraising across gold, zinc and copper targets. Iofina's iodine business delivered the session's sharpest share-price reaction, trimming guidance even as it switched on a new Permian Basin plant.
Nostrum completes Kazakhstan exit as wind down continues
Nostrum Oil & Gas (LSE:NOG) has completed the sale of its Kazakhstan operations, Zhaikmunai and POSITIV Invest, to Altaris Holding, closing a disposal first announced on 17 August and ending almost three decades of operations in the country. The shares jumped 21.4% to 0.85p as the market digested the final step in a wind-down process that began when the company's Senior Secured Notes due 2026 matured unpaid on 30 June, triggering default and forcing the sale.
Nostrum received total consideration of $304.6m at completion, subject to post-completion adjustments, with $10m held in escrow for at least six months against warranty claims. Altaris, an Astana International Financial Centre vehicle owned 51% by Alturion Holding and 49% by Fincraft Energy Holding, now controls the Kazakh assets. Proceeds at completion were used to redeem the Senior Secured Notes in full, including accrued, unpaid and default interest, leaving none outstanding. Separately, Nostrum Oil & Gas B.V. will purchase $417.52m in principal amount of its Senior Unsecured Notes under terms backed by more than 75% of holders, leaving a $100m tranche outstanding that matures on 31 December 2028 and carries no interest from completion.
"Nostrum has invested more than $2.5bn in Kazakhstan since 1997, developing an oil and gas production and processing business and a local workforce," said Viktor Gladun, chief executive of Nostrum Oil & Gas.
The transaction converts a defaulted, asset-backed business into a cash-generative shell with a single, interest-free note obligation due in 2028, fundamentally de-risking Nostrum's capital structure. What remains is a far smaller entity defined by its unrestricted cash position rather than Kazakh production, and the market's sharp re-rating suggests investors see more value in a clean balance sheet than they did in the underlying assets.
Richmond Hill raises funds for Sakoose drilling
Richmond Hill Resources (AIM:RHR) has raised gross proceeds of £285,010 through a placing of 25.91m new shares at 1.1p each via broker Clear Capital, with the stock easing 4.0% to 1.2p on the news. The AIM-listed gold explorer, focused on the Martello Gold Project near Dryden in north-western Ontario, will use the net proceeds for working capital and to fund the maiden drill programme at its Sakoose target.
The roughly 1,400-metre, nine-hole programme across five pad locations is designed to test the down-plunge extension of a historic high-grade shoot and an eastern structural intersection at the historic Sakoose gold mine. Richmond Hill now expects drilling to begin by 30 November, subject to rig availability and ground conditions, having previously said the programme was fully permitted for fourth-quarter mobilisation. The company also disclosed it has staked an additional 41 claims at nominal cost, expanding its land position around the project.
The modest raise keeps the company funded into its first drill results at a historically significant target, and the enlarged claim package signals management's confidence in the wider district before assay results are even in hand.
Microbiotica raises £36m to push IP Group-backed drug into Phase 2
IP Group (LSE:IPO) has invested a further £4m in portfolio company Microbiotica, which has closed a £36m Series C round to advance its pipeline into Phase 2 clinical development. IP Group shares slipped 1.7% to 70.0p, with the London-listed investor backing breakthrough science and technology companies through stakes such as this one in the clinical-stage microbiome medicines developer.
The new capital will fund progression of MB310 into Phase 2 trials in ulcerative colitis, building on positive COMPOSER-1 Phase 1b results that met primary and secondary endpoints with statistically significant improvements in clinical remission versus placebo. The round was led by British Business Bank, with participation from Tencent, Cambridge Innovation Capital, Flerie Invest and Seventure Partners. Following second completion, IP Group will hold an undiluted beneficial stake of 16.4% in Microbiotica, valued at £24.1m.
"Microbiotica has made exciting progress in translating world-class microbiome science into potential new medicines for patients, pleased to increase our investment alongside a high-quality syndicate of investors," said Greg Smith, chief executive of IP Group. The follow-on investment both validates the Phase 1b data and marks down IP Group's stake to a fresh valuation, giving investors a clearer read on one of its higher-profile life-sciences holdings ahead of pivotal trial data.
Iofina trims H2 output guidance after Q3 production shortfall
Iofina (AIM:IOF), the AIM-listed iodine producer and specialty chemicals manufacturer, said crystalline iodine production fell short of expectations in the third quarter, prompting a cut to full second-half guidance. The shares fell 11.4% to 48.75p as the Iofina Resources unit reported 205.2 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine output for the quarter, down from 215.8 tonnes a year earlier.
The shortfall was attributed to lower-than-expected water volumes at its plants, maintenance work, and delays completing the IO#11 pipeline and commissioning IO#12. Suppliers in Iofina's central Oklahoma core area temporarily shut certain disposal wells to carry out upgrades, though water volumes have since begun improving. Iofina now expects second-half production of 440 to 455 tonnes, down from a prior guidance range of 460 to 485 tonnes, with the final outcome still dependent on water supply recovery.
"Whilst production in the Period was lower than anticipated, we are encouraged by the positive adjustments made by our water supply partners and continue to work to restore volumes to previous levels," said Tom Becker, president. The double-digit share-price fall reflects the market's sensitivity to any slippage in iodine output given current elevated pricing, even as the company frames the issue as a temporary supply-chain bottleneck rather than a structural problem.
Panther Metals closes £2.22m Canadian flow-through placing
Panther Metals (LSE:PALM) has closed a placing raising £2.22m through Canadian flow-through shares, with the stock down 1.4% at 177.5p. The financing is structured to allow Canadian investors to claim tax deductions on exploration spending, a common mechanism for funding work on the company's North American gold and base-metal projects.
The proceeds strengthen Panther's funding position for continued exploration across its project portfolio, giving management flexibility to advance drilling and permitting work without immediate recourse to further dilutive equity raises.
Iofina commissions first commercial iodine plant in Permian Basin
Iofina has commissioned its first commercial-scale iodine production plant in the Permian Basin, marking an expansion of its operating footprint beyond its established Oklahoma core area. The move diversifies the company's production base at a time when its existing Oklahoma plants are grappling with water-supply disruptions.
The new facility gives Iofina a second growth region to offset the near-term guidance cut tied to IO#11 and IO#12 delays, positioning the company to add incremental volumes as the Permian operation ramps toward full output.
Aura Energy's Tiris feasibility study points to near-term uranium production
Aura Energy (AIM:AURA) highlighted feasibility study findings pointing toward near-term uranium production at its Tiris project, with shares down 1.1% at 4.35p. The study underpins the company's case for moving the Mauritania-based asset toward a construction decision.
The results give Aura a firmer technical and economic foundation to pursue financing and offtake discussions as it looks to become one of the next new uranium producers to reach the market amid continued strength in uranium pricing.
Technologies New Energy's Diverfuel launches sustainable fuels trading platform
Technologies New Energy (LSE:TNE) said its Diverfuel business has launched a trading platform for sustainable fuels, broadening the group's commercial offering beyond production into the marketing and trading side of the energy-transition supply chain.
The platform launch gives Diverfuel a route to capture margin across the sustainable fuels value chain, adding a trading revenue stream alongside its existing production-focused activities.
