New Frontier Minerals sees high-grade copper at Mt Storm

Assay results from a May field programme confirm high-grade, acid-soluble copper mineralisation at the Mt Storm prospect in Queensland, part of New Frontier Minerals' NWQ Copper Project.

New Frontier Minerals (LSE:NFM) said assay results from its May field programme at the Mt Storm Copper Prospect have confirmed high-grade copper mineralisation at surface.

The ASX and LSE-listed explorer, whose NWQ Copper Project sits in the Mount Isa Inlier of north-west Queensland, tested eight rock chip and grab samples that returned copper grades of between 0.49% and 6.88%.

Sequential leach testing on the highest-grade sample, at 6.88% total copper, found 6.83% in the sulphuric acid-soluble fraction, pointing to oxide and secondary copper minerals that could suit conventional acid-leach processing.

Mt Storm was previously mined on a small scale, most recently by Coffee Gold NL in the early 1990s, which extracted approximately 1,100 tonnes of ore at a head grade of around 6% copper, with historical pit sampling as high as 10.4% copper.

The prospect lies around 8km from New Frontier's Big One deposit.

"Mt Storm is emerging as a compelling target, and our team will return to site this month to complete the detailed mapping that will assist in the development of any future drill programme," said Chairman Gerrard Hall.

New Frontier's geological team returns to Mt Storm this month to map the porphyritic syenite dyke and its contact zones, work intended to shape the design and timing of any future drilling.
