Everplay Group (AIM:EVPL) told investors that Wardogs, the 100-player tactical first-person shooter, sold more than one million copies on its first day after launching into Steam Early Access on 10 September.

The game also drew more than 340,000 concurrent players on Steam, a scale of early demand that underscores the commercial potential of the title.

Everplay, an independent developer and publisher of premium video games, simulation titles and children's edutainment apps, holds a strategic partnership with Wardogs developer Bulkhead through its stake in Super Media Group.

The game is published by Team17.

"Selling more than one million copies on day one is a truly fantastic achievement by Bulkhead and Team17," said Mikkel Weider, group chief executive officer of everplay.

Everplay is due to report interim results for the six months ended 30 June on 15 September.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Wardogs achieved over one million sales and 340,000 concurrent players on its first day in Steam Early Access, validating commercial demand for the tactical shooter. Everplay holds a strategic stake in Bulkhead (the developer) through Super Media Group, positioning it to benefit from the title's launch momentum as it approaches its interim results announcement on 15 September.

Knock-on
  • Team17, the publisher, now has a proven commercial hit that may strengthen its own financial performance and reinforce Everplay's publishing partnership model.
  • The scale of day-one engagement (340,000 concurrent players) suggests strong retention potential, which could extend revenue visibility into the second half and beyond.
Investment case

Wardogs' breakout launch validates Everplay's strategic bet on Bulkhead and supports the company's expectation of second-half momentum. However, the title's success is attributable to Bulkhead and Team17; Everplay's financial upside depends on the terms of its stake in Super Media Group and how much of Wardogs' revenue flows to the group.
