Talon Resources (AIM:TAR) has kicked off its Phase 1 exploration programme at the Eagle Lake gold project in Ontario, with field crews beginning channel sampling and systematic prospecting across eight target areas on the same day as the announcement.

The North American gold exploration company, which recently joined AIM, holds a 90% interest in Eagle Lake, a 1,986-hectare land package within Ontario's Wabigoon Subprovince where historical surface sampling has returned assays of up to 204 grams per tonne gold across multiple zones.

Canadian geological consultancy Critical Discoveries has been appointed to manage on-the-ground activities, including submission of an Early Exploration Plan to the Ontario Ministry of Mines and engagement with Eagle Lake First Nation.

Phase 1 results will be combined with historical data to prioritise drill targets ahead of follow-up fieldwork in the third quarter and a maiden drilling campaign in the fourth quarter.

The planned initial programme spans 2,000 metres, structured in two phases of approximately 1,000 metres each so that results from the first phase can inform targeting for the second.

"Eagle Lake has already returned encouraging high-grade gold results at surface, including assays of up to 204 g/t gold, yet remains relatively underexplored with only historical drilling completed," said CEO Alex King.
