ITM Power (AIM:ITM) has formalised a strategic partnership with Protium Green Solutions to develop, invest in and operate industrial-scale green hydrogen production plants across the UK, with an immediate focus on advancing the Cromarty project in Scotland.
The formal framework sets out joint exploration of deployment models for Protium’s Hydrogen Allocation Round projects, including Hydropulse build-own-operate delivery, equipment supply and potential direct acquisition of ITM electrolysers, and ITM Power designs and manufactures industrial-scale electrolysers for green hydrogen production, the companies said.
The parties will run parallel commercial due diligence to test technical alignment and value for money across those delivery options rather than pre-defining a single execution route.
The first area of collaboration is the Cromarty Hydrogen Project in the Scottish Highlands, recently acquired by Protium, which will host a 15MW electrolyser expected to produce around 7 tonnes of green hydrogen per day at peak and target heavy industrial heat and power customers off the national gas grid, with Phase 1 estimated to create about 30 local skilled jobs and apprenticeships.
Protium will act as primary project developer, leading power procurement, permitting, downstream infrastructure and hydrogen distribution, and the partners are targeting a final investment decision for Cromarty in December.
“Together, we can deliver highly competitive hydrogen with strong long-term economics and help accelerate the UK hydrogen market,” said Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM Power.
