Poolbeg Pharma (AIM:POLB) has received formal notification from the European Patent Office that a European patent will be granted for POLB 001 for the prevention of cancer immunotherapy-induced Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS).
Poolbeg Pharma, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on transforming the cancer immunotherapy field, says the European grant provides protection across EPO member states and is the most commercially significant patent in its CRS family, following earlier grants in Australia in March and Canada in May.
The patent covers the use of p38 MAPK inhibitors, including POLB 001, to prevent cancer immunotherapy-induced CRS and is supported by proprietary data generated by the company.
Poolbeg says the grant materially strengthens its competitive position as POLB 001 advances through the clinic and increases the asset's attractiveness to potential partners.
"This decision to grant the European patent further strengthens our IP protection for POLB 001 and increases its commercial value to potential partners at a critical stage in the programme's development," said Jeremy Skillington, CEO.
The TOPICAL trial is on track to deliver interim data later this summer.
The company said it will provide further updates on the extension of coverage in other jurisdictions in due course.
