Poolbeg presents POLB 001 preclinical data showing CRS reduction and potential AML benefit

"This novel data in CRS reinforces the potential of POLB 001 to address one of the most significant challenges associated with cancer immunotherapy," Liam Tremble, Principal Scientist at Poolbeg, said.

Poolbeg Pharma (AIM:POLB) presented two preclinical posters at the European Hematology Association Congress showing that POLB 001 dampened cytokine release in bispecific antibody models and produced encouraging combination results in aged AML models.

The clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company’s own poster reported in vitro and in vivo data in which prophylactic POLB 001 did not affect bispecific antibody-induced tumour cell killing while significantly reducing peak serum levels of TNF, IFNγ and IL-6 in a humanised mouse model of BsAb-induced CRS.

"This novel data in CRS reinforces the potential of POLB 001 to address one of the most significant challenges associated with cancer immunotherapy," Liam Tremble, Principal Scientist at Poolbeg, said.

A University of Manchester poster showed early in vivo evidence that POLB 001 may improve the efficacy of azacitidine in aged mouse models of acute myeloid leukaemia, positioning AML as a potential new indication for the drug in an elderly, frail patient population.

Poolbeg said it looks forward to sharing interim clinical data from the TOPICAL trial in multiple myeloma patients later this summer.
