Castings expects full-year result in line with expectations

Castings said productivity gains and cost control should offset a power outage at its William Lee foundry, keeping full-year results on track.

Castings told shareholders, ahead of today's AGM, that management expects the full-year result to be in line with market expectations, despite operational disruption earlier in the year.

The iron casting and machining group, which supplies the European heavy truck sector along with wind power, agriculture, rail and material handling markets, said orders and forward schedules continue to improve from both its traditional truck customer base and new business linked to wind energy.

A power supply issue at its William Lee site was resolved at the end of May, but the knock-on effect on operational efficiencies persisted through June and July.

"With continued focus on productivity, cost control and the optimisation of the new foundry line, management anticipate the full year result to be in line with market expectations," said chairman A N Jones.

The trading update was issued ahead of the company's AGM, held at its Brownhills headquarters in the West Midlands.
