Zenith Energy (LSE:ZEN), a listed international energy production and development company, has commenced construction of its first photovoltaic solar plant in the Puglia region of Italy.

The plant, developed through Zenith's wholly owned Italian subsidiary WESOLAR S.R.L., has an installed capacity of approximately 1 MWp and is the first of three plants comprising the company's 7 MWp Under Construction Portfolio, which was announced on 23 March.

The two remaining plants are expected to enter construction in July and August respectively, with all three targeted to be operational and connected to Italy's national electricity grid by the end of 2026.

All three plants are being developed to qualify under Italy's FER X incentive scheme, backed by a €23 billion State aid programme recently approved by the European Commission to accelerate domestic renewable energy production.

Beyond the immediate portfolio, Zenith holds a broader Italian photovoltaic pipeline of approximately 200 MWp.

"Our strategy has been to develop a portfolio of small-scale photovoltaic projects capable of qualifying directly under Italy's FER X incentive scheme, thereby reducing execution risk and accelerating the path to production and revenue generation," said Chief Executive Andrea Cattaneo.
