SEED Innovations (AIM:SEED) said it has invested $350,000 in Cosmic Robotics, a US-based developer of autonomous robots for infrastructure construction, through a Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE).

The AIM-quoted investing company focuses on providing access to early-stage robotics and AI ventures, alongside a legacy wellness and life sciences portfolio it intends to unwind over the medium term.

Cosmic's flagship platform, Cosmic-1A, automates the handling and installation of large-format solar panels using AI, stereo vision and autonomous navigation, targeting a labour bottleneck in utility-scale solar deployment.

The uncapped, undiscounted SAFE carries a most-favoured-nation clause, entitling SEED to any better terms offered on subsequent SAFEs issued before Cosmic's next priced funding round, expected following its participation in Y Combinator's Summer 2026 programme.

Founded in 2023, Cosmic reported a loss of $1.8 million and net assets of $1.5 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, according to management accounts.

Its systems are already deployed on live US solar job sites, an early commercial stage that Jim Mellon, SEED's non-executive chair, cited as reinforcing confidence in the technology.

"Cosmic is already addressing that demand in the field, tackling a critical labour bottleneck slowing large-scale solar installation," Mellon said, pointing to the company's selection for Y Combinator, whose alumni include Airbnb and Coinbase.

The SAFE is expected to convert into equity when Cosmic completes its next priced financing round, or on customary liquidity events.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

SEED Innovations has committed $350,000 to Cosmic Robotics via a convertible SAFE ahead of the startup's Y Combinator Summer 2026 cohort entry, betting on autonomous solar panel installation technology already deployed on live US job sites. The investment is the second robotics backing SEED has announced recently, following a £300,000 stake in UK ag-tech firm Fieldwork Robotics on 19 June 2026, and signals execution of SEED's stated pivot toward early-stage robotics and AI ventures.

Investment case

The deal anchors SEED's strategic shift toward robotics and AI with real capital deployment, but the $350,000 commitment is modest relative to Cosmic's $1.5 million net asset base and does not guarantee equity upside; the SAFE only converts on a future priced round or liquidity event, leaving SEED's return contingent on Cosmic's ability to scale from early commercial deployment to a fundable growth stage.
