UK Oil & Gas (AIM:UKOG) has submitted a retrospective planning application to Surrey County Council seeking to fully restore the production consent for its Horse Hill oil field.
The submission follows the Supreme Court's 20 June 2024 judgment in Finch v Surrey County Council which found SCC's 2019 consent unlawful because it failed to assess end‑use greenhouse gas emissions, and the company holds an 85.635% operated interest in Horse Hill.
"Horse Hill remains a valuable UK onshore asset and, subject to planning consent, has the potential to generate revenues that can be responsibly reinvested to support the Company's strategic transition towards hydrogen storage and other clean energy initiatives," said Stephen Sanderson, UKOG Chief Executive.
UK Oil & Gas voluntarily suspended oil production at Horse Hill from 25 October 2024 and says the revised planning submission includes updated ecology, environmental and technical baseline studies and an assessment of downstream emissions in line with the Supreme Court ruling.
The AIM‑listed UK onshore oil and gas company, says a successful planning outcome would allow stable production to resume and generate revenues to help fund its transition into hydrogen storage and other clean energy projects in Dorset and Yorkshire.
