Big Yellow Group (LSE:BYG), the UK's market-leading self-storage operator, confirmed on Thursday that it walked away from takeover discussions last year after concluding an interested party's valuation fell short of the company's potential.
The statement responds to recent media coverage reporting that a shareholder who met with the company recently is encouraging it to explore a sale.
Big Yellow said that on 13 October 2025 its board disclosed it had held meetings with a small number of parties regarding a range of options, including a potential sale. An interested party followed up on 4 December 2025 with an indication of the valuation level at which it could make a proposal, but the board judged this did not reflect the company's full potential and terminated the discussions.
Management said the board and executive team remain focused on executing the company's existing strategy, which centres on a 12-store development pipeline funded through asset disposals including the recent £38.4m Harrow sale and the contracted £6.3m Bracknell industrial estate disposal.
The board added that it remains mindful of its fiduciary duties and continually evaluates all options for maximising shareholder value.
