Thor Explorations (LSE:THX) reported encouraging maiden drilling results from its Marahui Gold Project in northeastern Côte d'Ivoire.
The AIM and TSXV-listed gold miner's best intercepts included 6 metres at 6.20 grams per tonne gold from drillhole MRRC26-115, 9 metres at 5.40 grams per tonne from MRRC26-012 and 6 metres at 5.60 grams per tonne from MRRC26-008.
Marahui forms part of Thor's early-stage Côte d'Ivoire exploration portfolio, alongside the wholly-owned Guitry project and an option to earn up to 80% of the Boundiali permit.
Drilling has identified multiple parallel gold-bearing veins within a shear corridor extending more than 4km, with individual veins showing strike continuity of up to 700 metres and true widths of up to approximately 7 metres.
Thor has completed 18,439 metres of RC drilling against a budgeted 25,000-metre programme, with drilling to date testing only around 30% of the overall geological trend.
"The scale of the opportunity is particularly encouraging," said Segun Lawson, President and CEO, noting that additional geochemical anomalies already identified give the company "a clear pipeline of targets to test."
Lawson said the results reinforce confidence in Marahui as "a material and exciting new exploration opportunity" for the company, though he cautioned the project remains at an early stage.
Thor expects to test further targets and report remaining pending assay results over the coming months.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
Thor's maiden drilling at Marahui has returned high-grade gold intercepts (up to 6.20 g/t) across a 4km strike with multiple parallel veins up to 7m wide, with only 30% of the geological trend tested so far. The company has adjusted net cash of $218.6 million, giving it capacity to fund the remaining ~6,500m of the budgeted 25,000m programme and advance what management calls a "material" early-stage exploration opportunity alongside its producing Segilola mine and developing Douta project.
Marahui remains early-stage exploration with no resource estimate or development timeline disclosed, so upside is speculative; however, the scale of the strike length and vein continuity, combined with Thor's cash position and track record converting exploration into reserves (Douta, Segilola), suggests the company has both the capital and operational capability to test the pipeline systematically over coming quarters.
