H-Power (LSE:HPOW) has agreed to supply 5,000 kilograms of fuel cell grade green hydrogen to Protium under an initial 12-month contract that includes a virtual depot arrangement at H-Power's Dunsfold facility to store and fill Protium's cylinder packages.
The hydrogen will be produced by H-Power's pilot ammonia cracker at Dunsfold, sourced from bio-ammonia and supplied at 99.97% purity (ISO 14687 Grade D) in what the company describes as the UK's first commercial bulk sale of hydrogen from cracked ammonia, and 5,000 kg would run an LC30 fuel cell generator at full power for more than 100 days; H-Power is a provider of ammonia-based low carbon hydrogen production and hydrogen-to-power solutions.
"This is a first in the UK, clearly demonstrating that H-Power enables the production of scaled volumes of low carbon hydrogen reliably and safely from our ammonia cracker at a commercially viable price, without reliance on government subsidies or incentives," John Wilson, CEO of H-Power, said.
The sale follows an Environment Agency amendment to H-Power's Dunsfold permit allowing third-party sales until 31 August, creates a regional distribution base to expand Protium's South East and UK delivery capability, and sits alongside H-Power's HY5 decentralised cracker, capable of up to 500 kg/day, which H-Power says remains on track for commercial availability by the end of the calendar year.
