Aura Energy (LSE:AURA) said the Geological Survey of Sweden has formally proposed designating the Häggån polymetallic deposit as a national interest for valuable materials.

The proposal comes from SGU, Sweden's government geological authority and the sole competent body for such designations, and would prevent municipalities and state agencies from granting permits for activities that could prevent or significantly hinder future extraction, effectively locking in legal protection for the deposit's resource base.

"This proposal by the Geological Survey of Sweden confirms once again the strategic importance of the Häggån deposit, which contains globally important quantities of uranium and vanadium," said Philip Mitchell, Executive Chair.

SGU has opened a consultation with designated stakeholders until 3 June, after which its Director General will make the final designation decision following the statutory referral process.

SGU's paperwork highlights uranium and vanadium as elements of great importance to Swedish and international industry and notes other valuable, well-documented minerals in the Häggån resource.

A confirmed designation would strengthen Häggån's position as one of Sweden's most strategically significant mineral deposits.
