Is Bitcoin's $60,000 defence is a sign of a durable low?

IG Group's market analyst Chris Beauchamp says crypto selling has "exhausted itself for now" as bitcoin and ether hold firm against oil-driven volatility.

Cryptocurrencies have found a period of calm, highlights IG's market analyst Chris Beauchamp, who noted that Bitcoin and Ether had pushed higher even as Middle East tensions and oil-price swings rattled equities and chip stocks last week.

Reasons for Bitcoin's value depreciation in 2026 are myriad, including the recent 'Bro-tation' out of crypto and into the SpaceX IPO, but, as the crater stabilised around $60,000, the IG analyst posits this may be a broadly awaited turning point.

Resilience at $60,000 is notable given how weak sentiment around digital assets has been for most of the year, according to Beauchamp, suggesting the bout of Bitcoin selling may have run its course, for now.

More specifically, the analyst calls it "a banner moment" that offers hope of a durable low, whilst noting that the current pullback remains less severe in duration and depth than the 2021/22 downturn.

Looking at the days ahead, the IG analyst said he expects crypto to compete for attention against a heavy week of US corporate earnings and economic data, with oil prices and the Middle East conflict continuing to set the broader risk tone.
